Tumblr media
Dear Kevin James,
Chief Mod Edgeworth:
Tumblr media
I could see that in a fan comic, though there already are mangas of Ace Attorney that aren't canon. I suppose it wouldn't be impossible. I would read it regardless of if it were a fan comic or an official manga.
Co-Mod: I'm a lot more familiar with anime than manga, so I don't know how good or bad that would look (though I guess that would mostly depend on the skill and talent of the writer), but I'm open to the idea. That being said, it reminds me a little too much of a certain despairful video game/anime series, so to answer your second question...probably not.
Mod Zieks: I love the idea. Love it so much. Tbh I'm more of an anime person than manga, but if it was manga exclusively, I'd be all over that.
Tumblr media
Dear Minnesotamermaid71,
Chief Mod Edgeworth: You can try doing it on another device or web browser. Otherwise, I don't know what the issue is. You should be able to click on it and it will take you to the Youtube link.
Tumblr media
Dear Robottiye,
Chief Mod Edgeworth: I don't know. I doubt there's going to be much difference outside of maybe higher graphics and stuff.
Mod Zieks: Yes, I do have some plans to use it! (For evil.)
Tumblr media
Dear Anonymous,
Chief Mod Edgeworth: The recent ones seem like they're asked because they're funny? Otherwise I have no idea.
Mod Zieks: It's the internet, where people can be as anonymous as they want. It's to be expected (unfortunately.)
Tumblr media

Dear Askrikkaiandhyotei,
Chief Mod Edgeworth:
Tumblr media
I know. This was made two years ago and the answers were pointed out in the comments right here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Referenced Letter)
Dear Eway4,
Chief Mod Edgeworth: This also shows the possibility that Franziska has an older brother too. She may have an older sister and brother. Manfred von Karma is... what? 65 according to Ace Attorney wiki? He'd have been 48 when Franziska was born, which already leaves over two decades and a half for Manfred von Karma to have two, three, even five other kids. That would depend on when he was married, but I think you get the point and no I don't think he has five other kids.
Tumblr media
Personally, I think it could go either way. I have created OC's as part of the von Karma family that includes Franziska, an older brother and an older sister. Both have kids and while one owns a dog named Phoenix, it is shared by the two siblings since he considers it a family pet.
I did find this interesting. I suppose it shouldn't be any surprise that the grandchild didn't originally have a gender. Now, I'm curious what the original translation of the credit card pin number comment was.
Tumblr media
Dear Charicla,
Chief Mod Edgeworth: Ace Attorney mostly, but I also have Tetris, Project Makeover, Wordscape, Gardenscape, Lilly's Garden, Happy Match Cafe, Solitaire, Island Hoppers, Love Paradise, Winked and Traffic Escape.
Tumblr media
Basically, puzzle games, classics, makeover and a dating sim.
Tumblr media
(Referenced Letter)
Dear Dawsongfg,
Chief Mod Edgeworth: Spiders? You're talking to someone who used to pick up Daddy Longlegs from the corner of the basement window and drop them in a well.
Co-Mod: I answered that letter, so it doesn't scare me a whole lot, but...that was still a jerk move. 😒
Mod Zieks: Love spiders. They go great with sprite, and maybe crickets as well.
Tumblr media
Dear Anonymous,
Chief Mod Edgeworth: It kinda is? I don't know what you're referring to or if it's to any letters. If so, you need to link the letters you're talking about or I'm going to be so confused.
Tumblr media
I will say that we only know their ages in each game, being it is revealed in their profile. Outside of that or any official canon B-Days that are revealed in the game or something such as Rayfa's birthday, we can only speculate when it may be. If anyone wants to wish a character a Happy Birthday during any random day, they may and we will recognize it as such.
Tumblr media
Dear Anonymous,
Chief Mod Edgeworth: We do insert headcanons as a way to fill in the blank so to speak, since some questions to the characters are not explained or answered in the game. As such, we will use headcanons that will add but not change canon.
Tumblr media
As for the previous letters, those were from former mods that no longer work here. Just like Kristoph being a part of the Gavinners was a headcanon to add but not break canon, so was theirs. The game never showed Kristoph claiming he wasn't fond of the genre or only tolerated Klavier's music. That was likely based off of Apollo's and Ema's feelings for Klavier's music of not being fond. Mine of Kristoph being a part of the Gavinners was mostly to answer a question if he was, but I also think it makes sense being that Klavier looks up to his brother and I find it would be something interesting for Kristoph.
Tumblr media
Dear A Concerned Asker,
Chief Mod Edgeworth: I don't? Hell, I've answered asks to Klavier and Jake hinting that they swing both ways and I've had Edgeworth once come out as Asexual. Not to mention we recognize Aura Blackquill x Metis Cykes as a canon one-sided ship. Whether Metis returned the feelings is up for interpretation. Outside of that, the only "straight" ships that are canon we recognize is Godot x Mia and maybe Phoenix x Iris. We do not count Apollo's date with Maya, because that was a one time Valentines Day shtick and the other ships we do not count as canon, straight or not. You might get a character or two finding someone attractive (you might be lucky enough to have Klavier admit to finding Apollo attractive) or having one character asking another on a date that is convincing enough, but that's it.
If you're talking about past letters from four or five years ago, maybe more, that’s likely from Co-Mod and maybe Modot. Can’t say. I know Modot did say he hated certain slash ships because of the fandom at the time and Co-Mod felt awkward in answering yaoi/yuri letters, so he avoided them altogether. However, I will gladly answer slash/yaoi/yuri letters and I recognize when LGBTQ+ is canon. I do ship Wrightworth, AsoRyuu and BaroAso, so I do endorse yaoi.
Tumblr media
That being said, I do understand where Co-Mod and Modot are coming from. It isn’t that they believe all characters are straight, but that it wouldn’t be IC for say Phoenix to fall in love with Edgeworth when he had been into Iris from the start. From Modot’s perspective, Phoenix and Maya made better sense before DD and SOJ came about. The AA trilogy did seem to have NaruMayo as the canon endgame in mind and Modot seems like a canon shipper. I was a canon shipper for the longest time back when I was in High School full of gay and bisexual students, so I can tell you that preferring straight over gay ships has nothing to do with it.
As for Co-Mod, he had never met someone that was gay outside of his uncle, so it was more that he didn’t know or was inexperienced with how to answer slash letters. It’s changed since I became mod and especially after taking over as the head mod. He's even started answering some slash letters recently.
I know you’re not trying to accuse anyone of anything, but it does feel a little accusatory. Not only are there multiple mods, as you’ve stated, but there have been changing of the Heads over the years. Modot was the first, then Modthorne, Co-Mod and now me. That’s why you need to look at which mod is answering letters. If it’s “The Mod,” he’s no longer here and doesn’t apply to the current mods. If it’s Co-Mod, he’s retired and no longer runs the place. As far as I can recall, many of us do endorse certain noncanon ships, most of them yaoi, and we recognize if characters are canonly gay or at least into the same sex.
Co-Mod: Yeah, I'd say that about sums it up. I was raised to believe that men are made for women and women are made for men (and while my mind could be changed, I haven't seen much evidence disproving that idea), but even if that weren't the case, I hadn't seen very many same-sex relationships, real or fictional, so I wouldn't have been able to portray them accurately, which is why I avoided them. Call it whatever you want, but I was just playing it safe. In any case, we now have several Mods who are more willing to address the topic, so it looks like we've found what appears to be a workable solution.

"legacy" as a concept is a really important theme in ace attorney in general but it's ESPECIALLY prevalent in aai2, what's with the whole deadbeat fathers/happy adoptions themes around.
Can you break free from family cycles? Should you? All those things you've done, all those who have stood before you. Some characters pursue their ghosts willingly (kay & lang trying to uphold their family legacy, also the pastry lady whose name i cannot remember) some are actively trying to break away from them (edgeworth & francezka re: von karma & gregory) some aren't even aware it's there (simon, john, sebastian in the beginning)
and the ugly truth is that you can't just pretend this past doesn't exist. people won't shut up about edgeworth and von karma. raymond keeps asking so what of gregory? have you figured how much you want to owe him? john is caught in the middle of the whole president plot even twelve years later. simon imitating his father in his killing method. hell, miles referencing "that man" all the time could be interpreted as phoenix's legacy to him.
and yet!! and yet. your legacy is a part of you, but it's not all of you. you can choose a different path. oh, surely, that requires some self-awareness, surely, a different perspective is needed to see that, but you can.aai2's themes culminate in two places: simon's confrontation, obviously, but also with sebastian convicting his father. simon was alone, up until the end, and that's why he could not break free of that legacy he ignored. sebastian, however, had miles's help, and justine's help, and everyone else's, and that's why he could say "thank you. and goodbye." his sprite even mimics justine's in that scene. "I aknowledge you as a part of me. I will never be able to wash my hands of your blood. but I refuse to be trapped by it. i will be my own person. thank you. and goodbye."
listen to me. found family real. liSTEN TO ME- [I am forcefully escorted out of the courtroom]

(Previous Letters)
Dear Dawsongfg,
Chief Mod Edgeworth: Your letters are at least less cringy to the point they’re tolerable now.
Tumblr media
Aside from that, I do agree that Apollo’s sprite was great and one of my best works.
Tumblr media
(Referenced Letter)
Dear Trearoos,
Chief Mod Edgeworth:
Tumblr media
Fixed it. However, I ask you to report this in the comment section of the post. It’s easier on the smartphone.
Tumblr media
(Referenced Letter)
Dear Trearoos,
Chief Mod Edgeworth:
Tumblr media
Oh yeah! It’s been a while since I’ve played it and I always favored Sayori. She was always so cheery and bright. Not to mention I’m a sucker for best friends turning into romantic couples.
Co-Mod: Same!  I’ll always be of the opinion that Natsuki is best girl, but Sayori is best girl for the main character.
Tumblr media
Dear Lupin Fan,
Chief Mod Edgeworth: I agree the crossover would be fantastic, but I’d rather it be given its own separate crossover like Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright. I’d also rather it be a crossover of a Sherlock Holmes game with Lupin.
Tumblr media
Having a three-way crossover wouldn’t hurt, but you are talking three major players having to share an equal role. If there was a follow-up to The Great Ace Attorney Resolve, I’d like it to either focus on Ryunosuke and Susato building their own law firm or have it be Barok and Kazuma focus on their adventures.
Tumblr media
(Referenced Link)
Dear Anonymous,
Chief Mod Edgeworth: Ah, I see. Thank you for explaining this to me.
Tumblr media
(Referenced Letter)
Dear Dawsongfg,
Chief Mod Edgeworth: My hatred for the anime has nothing to do with Manfred von Karma caring about Edgeworth or not. It’s the fact the anime made so many changes from the game that make zero sense and leave more questions than answers.
Do you know what other version of Ace Attorney had Manfred von Karma caring deeply about Edgeworth? The live action Ace Attorney, which is superior to the anime in every way. Let me give you a comparison.
Tumblr media
In the live action version, the scene of the crime of DL-6 took place in the evidence room and there was no earthquake. Obviously, being this was a live action adaptation made under a very low budget, it makes sense. However, despite this change, they made sure the scene of Gregory Edgeworth’s murder carried the same weight and tone as the game. Because this took place in the evidence room, the scene made it seem like Gregory was destroying evidence, leading up to the bailiff attacking Gregory, then little Edgeworth picking up the gun dropped to point it at Yanni Yogi. Even if this is a change from the game, it gives the same weight and feeling that Edgeworth really could have been the one to shoot his father. Even young Edgeworth fainting suddenly could be taken as his trauma having thought to have killed his father being so severe that the stress made him pass out. It’s even set up in a way to where even Gregory might’ve truly thought his son accidentally shot him in attempt to shoot Yanni Yogi. So, while there were changes, it makes sense from a visual medium in live action low budget film.
On the other hand, you have the anime that has the advantage to animate the scene of the murder of DL-6, yet skip the earthquake and Edgeworth’s trauma of it for no reason. The anime does this. It always takes away the trauma and weight Edgeworth went through in the game. Not to mention the animation is crap.
Tumblr media
Dear Charicla,
Chief Mod Edgeworth: It was about four months ago.
Tumblr media
Dear Miraz van Nohrr,
Chief Mod Edgeworth: I’m from Texas.
Mod Justice: Same here.
Tumblr media
Dear Dawsongfg,
Chief Mod Edgeworth: Judging by the date, I’d say you’re talking about the Christmas banner?
Tumblr media
Thanks, I guess? Though, this banner has been around for years. I might update it a bit depending if I ever find the time.
Tumblr media
Dear Anonymous,
Chief Mod Edgeworth:
Tumblr media
Damnit Apollo, every single time, we have to get a new duck tape and bubblewrap. I ain’t got time and money to buy us a new window.
Tumblr media
Dear Glitteringlyyours,
Chief Mod Edgeworth: You’re likely reading past letters from Dawsongfg about last year or so ago. They’ve since started sending normal letters.

Dear Dornada,
Chief Mod Edgeworth: We do have a collection of different AA sprites both 2D and 3D. However, you can also find some clean sprites in the Sprite Gallery located in the Ace Attorney Wiki. You can also find others in court-records.net.
Tumblr media
Considering most of the 3D sprites from DD and SOJ are from court-record.net links to sprite pages for each character made by Co-Mod and other past mods, I’m not going to go farther than that. Just know that us and other past mods have gained these sprites over the course of the years. Sometimes we download videos from YouTube and put the characters through a loop and other times we just find them in the Sprite Gallery when they’re available.
Tumblr media

Dear Dawsongfg,
Chief Mod Edgeworth: Godot means what he says.
Tumblr media
Oh Stewie,
Chief Mod Edgeworth: You’re missing something... two somethings in fact. A link and the name of the person you’re addressing this to. Since you’re barely a year old, I’ll let you out with a warning.
Tumblr media
Dear Dawsongfg,
Chief Mod Edgeworth: Not really? This is a game where most of those that die are victims your clients have been accused of murdering. What isn’t expected is when the murdered victims first appeared in an earlier game, then died just one or two games later. Tobias Gregson anyone?
Tumblr media
Dear Raeioun,
Chief Mod Edgeworth: Unfortunately, yes. Though, Mod Auditions are open for anyone interested in joining as a mod.
Crossover games are different because they have their own game and are part of their own universe. You can purchase Professor Layton VS Phoenix Wright without the need to purchase the Ace Attorney Trilogy or the likes. The same goes with Project X 2 and Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3.
Tumblr media
However, the same cannot be said for the Asinine Episodes. In order to play them, you have to purchase the games, those being Spirit of Justice or The Great Ace Attorney Adventures. However, it gets even more complicated. For Asinine episodes for The Great Ace Attorney, you have to literally purchase The Great Ace Attorney Adventures... wait for it... IN JAPANESE. You heard it right folks, there is no asinine episodes for The Great Ace Attorney in English, not even in the Pre Order for The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. Cue...
youtube
For Spirit of Justice, you can get the Asinine Episodes for Phoenix Wright and Apollo Justice in English. Unfortunately, it’s not available in the app you can purchase from the apple store. That tells me it’s only available on certain Spirit of Justice games. That’s the main issue with the Asinine DLC cases. Neither are canon, you have to purchase the games to achieve them and you have to purchase specific kind of games. It’s not like the crossover games where they are their own separate universes that are allowed to be separate from the games. Keep in mind that we don’t consider the bonus episodes won in Professor Layton VS Phoenix Wright game canon to its own game.
As for your suggestion, we may consider it but do keep in mind these things take time to process because it needs to be approved by all the mods. Like it took me months to get the updated and new rules approved or they’d have been done at the first of January.
Tumblr media
Dear Kk-cats,
Chief Mod Edgeworth: Thank you very much.
Tumblr media
Dear Anonymous,
Chief Mod Edgeworth: I hope you have a nice day yourself.
Tumblr media
(Referenced Letter)
Dear Anonymous,
Chief Mod Edgeworth: Just because I’m critical about Ace Attorney, that doesn’t mean I’m not a fan. In fact, the most genuine fans are often the most critical about things they love. In fact, the old mods Modot and Modthorne are much more critical about Ace Attorney than me, if you read some of Modot’s past essays or watch Modthorne’s livestreams. Most of my criticisms are in the form of tags, meaning they’re not as big as you seem to be making them out to be.
Tumblr media
Just look up my tag and look through my past essays on Manfred von Karma, Dick Gumshoe, Wrightworth, Kristoph Gavin and the 20th Anniversary Essay on how I got into Ace Attorney. If I was to describe why or how much I love Ace Attorney, it would be a whole novel long compared to a couple of tags with my criticism.
Seriously, the only times I ever make any criticisms about Ace Attorney are in tags and maybe a paragraph letter. That’s nothing to cry home about really. Even the tags in the letter you referenced is something many AA fans agree with.
Now, if you want to know what Ace Attorney... anything I hate or don’t like.... the anime. I didn’t like it at first, but it seems I am hating it more the deeper I get into Ace Attorney. At this point, I hate the anime Ace Attorney so much that it is on my blacklist of things I will never mention or talk about. So... now you know.
Tumblr media
(Referenced Letter)
Dear Anon,
Chief Mod Edgeworth:
Tumblr media
Ah, I see. I was mostly confused why you made the assumption. Though, taking that Maya always wears that uniform in the game, I don’t entirely blame you. At the same time, the game always focuses on when Phoenix and Maya are at work, being why you see Phoenix in a suit and Maya in a kimono. That isn’t to say that’s what they wear outside of work. There are many Official Artworks where Maya is seen wearing different kimonos, a swimsuit, a school uniform and this.
Tumblr media
These were early designs, but my point still stands. It’s likely she wears casual kimonos and yukatas in Kurain. Hey, I only asked why you thought she wore the same outfit. I didn’t say she wears shirts and pants outside of work. Kurain is a very Japanese religious village, so I’m sure everyone there wears kimonos and yukatas of different designs.

Dear Sender of the Lich,
Mod Edgeworth: I do apologize, though I don’t know which letter you are referring to and, when the Halloween Event was starting, I was specifically looking for letters with “Halloween.”
Tumblr media
If you want to send your holiday letters, you need to wait until myself or one of the other mods sends a post to announce the start of the holiday letters. While the Halloween Event did start much earlier than the holiday letters and the letters to the Cursed Mediums were being answered very early on, it was only letters to those cursed mediums. If it was a letter to anyone else, I’m not going to know right away. You do need to be specific the moment it happens.
Tumblr media
Dear Gumshoe “Letty” Fan,
Tumblr media
Mod Edgeworth: Only by request. You will need to resend that letter with the link of the letter answered by the cursed mediums. I will try to keep an eye on yours.
Tumblr media
Dear Anonymous,
Mod Edgeworth: Only if you resend them. They will be answered normally and tagged “Halloween 2021.”
Tumblr media
(Referenced Video)
Dear Anonymous,
Co-Mod: I watched it just now.  Far be it from me to make any “sweeping” judgments, but I’d so it was okay at best.
And who knew a broom could have such sage wisdom?
Tumblr media
Dear skibot99,
Co-Mod: It’s been a while since I did that (and since I played some of the games), but I’ll give it a shot.
1. Ace Attorney Investigations 2
2. Dual Destinies
3. Spirit of Justice
4. Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
5. The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures
6. Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth
7. Trials and Tribulations
8. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
9. Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney
10. Justice For All
I prefer the newer games to the older ones, in case it wasn’t obvious.  I’ve mentioned this before, but the Ace Attorney series is one of the rare few that’s managed to get better over time, in a number of ways -- its visuals, its music, its mechanics, and so on.
Oh, and I would add the The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve to the list, but I still have yet to finish it.  I definitely have high hopes for it, though.
Mod Edgeworth: I’m pretty sure they mean starting with your least favorite to your favorite. Anyways, here’s mine.
1. AAI 2. JFA 3. DD 4. SOJ 5. AJ 6. AA1 7. T&T 8. PLvsPW 9. DGS 10. AAI2 11. DGS2
The second game of The Great Ace Attorney definitely succeeds Ace Attorney Investigations 2 by far. Somehow, the Ace Attorney games that weren’t localized always seem to be the best.

Dear draph91,
Mod Edgeworth: I know whom you’re talking about.  DID personalities counts as one character. You can even ask for the option of each personality’s opinion, but be warned, they’re not going to be any different. They’re different personalities, but still the same person. They will have the same taste for food, are close with the same people and have the same opinions and preferences.

Dear dawsongfg,
Co-Mod: I’m glad you asked.  Are you familiar with this golden oldie?
Tumblr media
Dear dawsongfg,
Co-Mod: It wouldn’t be the first time that’s happened, so even if it does kind of put a dent in the fourth wall, I wouldn’t call it a break.  Just don’t expect the characters to know what you’re talking about when you say things like “Turnabout Goodbyes,” “Episode 2-2,” or stuff like that.  They didn’t see the same text, transitions, and GUI stuff we did, after all.

Tumblr media
Dear Asexual-Deesasters,
Mod Edgeworth:
Tumblr media
If you want to know the answer to that question, go to this link.
Tumblr media
Dear Skibot99,
Co-Mod: I’m fairly certain it was The Mod, but I don’t know for sure.  He actually had another one before it, made from an old Ace Attorney musical animation.  I haven’t been able to locate that video, unfortunately, but here’s the old banner:
Tumblr media
Ah...  Those were good days.  Good days.
Tumblr media
Dear Dawsongfg,
Co-Mod: It’s fine.  Besides, it won’t be too long before those letters are accepted, so maybe we’ll hold onto them until that time.
Tumblr media
Dear skibot99 again,
Mod Edgeworth: The Lost Turnabout hands down. All logic is thrown out the window the moment Phoenix had amnesia. It’s clear the Judge knew something was wrong with Phoenix, so why didn’t he call for a recess or check on Phoenix? Not to mention Wellington was annoying. He’s probably the only character I would be hesitant to play as when answering letters, if only because he was so unbearable.
Tumblr media
As for Turnabout Ablaze, I do agree that it is a drag to get through in the end, though the entire game of AAI was boring, aside from the game mechanics. As a case by itself, I wouldn’t put it as my least favorite, if only because I did get some funny parts out of it.  It also contributed to the overall story, whereas The Lost Turnabout could just be taken out and it wouldn’t effect the overarching plot.
Co-Mod: I’d probably have to go with Turnabout Big Top.  I honestly couldn’t figure out the part where you have to present Max’s poster without consulting a walkthrough.  Why couldn’t we just present Max himself?  Besides that, the ending was largely underwhelming -- the murder weapon was hidden under Acro’s blanket the entire time, but instead of seeing a screenshot of it there, we just have to imagine it.  Maybe it was a filler case, but that was no excuse for it to end so poorly.  Not to mention one of the witnesses was a literal puppet.
Tumblr media
It’s hard truth, Trilo.  Live with it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dear skibot99 and Anonymous,
Mod Edgeworth: I… think I heard from her when the localization of DGS was announced? I know Mod Kristoph and Mod Maya introduced themselves when I came into the group. There’s a third person, but I only heard from her once. As for what’s going on with her… I don’t know.
As for the flooding the inbox, it’s fine. I won’t promise a letter or two won’t be deleted, but we may make an exception and I’d hardly consider 4-5 different letters flooding the inbox. However, I do highly suggest lowering your letter sending to no more than three a day to prevent deletion of your letters. The only time I’d say your letters are flooding the inbox is when you’re sending 10-20 of them, especially of the same letter, and we have to scroll down for a while to get to the next letter. We will only choose three out of that pile and delete the rest.
Tumblr media
And yes, we do have a few that send us 10-20 of the same letter to multiple characters in the span of five minutes. Geez.
Co-Mod: Mod Paups has had to remain absent for personal reasons, and sadly, has recently communicated to me that she wishes to leave the blog entirely.  Thanks for all you’ve contributed to this blog, Mod Paups, and best of luck in whatever you do next!

Dear mungeondaster,
Mod Edgeworth: Since I answered this one, I shall answer your letter.
Tumblr media
(^ Why do I always use this sprite? ^) Actually, the localization never specified if Manfred Von Karma was born in Germany or not. In fact, we never knew the German part until Justice For All when Franziska Von Karma was stated to have flown all the way from Germany. It never specifies any reason for this and fans were quick to jump to the conclusion that it means the Von Karma family were German, which… isn’t entirely true? Manfred Von Karma never said he lived in Germany and, for all we know, Franziska could’ve lived in Germany to study law or something.
Now, the OG does give us more specific detail on this, being why I answered this the way I did. In the OG, both Von Karma’s were born Japanese, but lived in America or at least have an estate there. It specified that they were originally born in Japan, which would be translated to LA, California in the localization. While using the OG canon isn’t normal here, I will use it, if the localization doesn’t specify things. In this case, it never specified if the Von Karma’s were born in Germany or if Manfred Von Karma lived in America. Since he had to wait out the Statue of Limitations for DL-6, we can assume he lived in LA for 15 years or more. That means he’s American.
Tumblr media
I am still getting the hang of writing letters, but I try to stick to canon as much as possible. If you believe we’ve made an error in our letters, feel free to let us know, but also show proof, if we go against canon. We’ll be sure the letter is sent to the right mod or else fix it.
Tumblr media
Dear  Bluedragoncody,
Mod Edgeworth: I... don’t know how to feel about that.
Also, I accidentally deleted your previous letter before this one when trying to post it on here. I’m so sorry about that. If you could remember it, would you send it again?
Co-Mod: I’ll just respond to this with an old classic:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dear Aceattorneyismyjam,
Mod Edgeworth: I-I’m not a pro! I accidentally deleted an important mod question from bluedragoncody, because of my inexperience. Oof! Again, so sorry!
Tumblr media
Granted, I am good with digital art and writing essays, but I’m still trying to get the hang of being a mod here. Believe me, I do get corrected on several mistakes I do here. I can’t really call myself a pro just yet. I’ve only just started becoming a mod here last month lol
Tumblr media
Dear Dahlia,
Mod Edgeworth: I thank you for your support of this blog and my essay. Manfred Von Karma is also my favorite villain and someone I do feel is underestimated as a one dimensional villain. I think people hate him so much, because of how he ruined Miles Edgeworth’s life without looking at the bigger picture. They focus on the bad things with their black colored glasses without dissecting Manfred Von Karma’s character as a whole.
Tumblr media
One thing I love about this blog, even before becoming a mod, is that no one here ever portrayed Manfred Von Karma as the one dimensional villain. He can be snappy at times, but as proven in many of our previous letters, he’s also portrayed as being calm when threatened, polite at times and absolutely loves his wife and children. Yes, he’s a terrible person, but that’s what makes him so interesting. He’s a bad, evil person that does good things from time to time. It doesn’t justify any of his horrible deeds, murder included, but it does make him human.
Co-Mod: I’m...going to assume you’re a different Dahlia.  (I’m grabbing a Magatama of Parting just in case, though.  I’m sure you can understand.)
Anyway, thanks for being such a loyal follower!  This blog’s been through a lot of changes since it began, and since I joined it back in 2017, so I’m glad it’s still a good source of enjoyment for you.  I’ve seen all sorts of cringe by now, by the way (some of which I wrote myself), so don’t worry about it.
I’m also glad that the characters still sound like themselves and not like us.  The hilarious personalities and quirks given to them by Capcom’s writers, as well as the humanity in so many of them, make them easy to relate to, and thus fairly easy to mimic.  I may have said something like this before, but I see myself in a lot of them -- in Athena’s fear of inadequacy, in Apollo’s desire for justice in a world where it’s hard to find, in Sebastian’s confusion about where to go next after his world falls apart, and possibly even in the von Karmas’ desire for perfection.  I of course identify with their positive feelings as well -- Phoenix’s smugness when he gets things right, Athena’s joy after pulling off a victory in court, Adrian’s pride after her self-confidence is restored, etc. -- but there’s something about the struggles they face that make them easier to relate to, on top of being that much more awesome in the end.
Unfortunately, I can’t promise anything about this blog continuing on in perpetuity.  For one thing, I don’t plan on being around forever (I’m fairly certain the other Mods don’t, either), and for that matter, there’s also no telling how long Tumblr will be around.  All I can promise is that I’ll give my best while I’m here, and that the love from you and everyone else who shares it here is sure to be what keeps us going.  Thank you for your contribution!
Tumblr media
Dear TurqouiseJavelin,
Mod Edgeworth: Hm... not bad ideas. Though, we mods choose our own mod names under the condition that it doesn’t match anyone else’s mod name.
Co-Mod: What Mod Edgeworth said.  Choosing the name “Mod Athena” may or may not increase your chances of being hired, though.  *wink, wink*
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dear Anonymous,
Mod Edgeworth: Actually, Gregory was stated in the Autopsy to have died by a gunshot. However, you do bring up something interesting. If Gregory Edgeworth realized he was dead and last remembered Robert Hammond strangling him, he wouldn’t think “I died by the shot of a gun.” Since the Detectives weren’t aware that victim had died unconscious, they’d assume the victim would recall being shot and killed. This makes me wonder if Gregory Edgeworth was channeled, but never brought to court to be cross-examined.
There are still holes, but I do like your aspect on DL-6.
Co-Mod: Dang...  No matter how many times you come back to this game, there’s always something new to think about.  I honestly hadn’t considered those details about Yanni Yogi’s trial.  Your explanation makes the most sense to me, but there’s one other possibility regarding Gregory’s testimony -- he may have chosen to lie about who murdered him in order to protect his son from a murder charge.  That’s all open to interpretation, of course, so your guess is as good as ours.
It’s a good thing we’re not actual defense attorneys, huh?

Mod Edgeworth:
Tumblr media
I think it’s time we place the number of letters you’re sending us on a leash. Unlike you, we don’t have a ton of free time on our hands.
Tumblr media
(Referenced Letters)
Dear Sweetlaive3,
Mod Edgeworth: I know and I do sincerely apologize for not putting my foot down with Dawsongfg a long time ago. I am taking measures to put a good leash on their shenanigans. We’ve already stated a rule about the number of letters they’re sending to us mods and this set of letters was the last batch of letters Dawsongfg sent us before we placed that rule on them. This batch was a day’s worth. It has only been recently that the letters are now beginning to lessen the number of letters sent by him. Keep in mind that it is five letters a day and three mod letters a day.
Tumblr media
As for the queue, I can proudly say that I’ve only found several in the batch of 44 letters in the queue right now and have made the effort to deleting the ones that broke the rules. We will also no longer be answering their Phoenix x Iris letters. Dawsongfg can still write letters, but they need to follow within the guidelines and no longer do anymore of these shenanigans.
I ask you don’t place the blame on Co-Mod. He did talk with me about this and that the letters were getting out of hand, thus why I had the idea to update the letter limitation.  As I said, I should have put my foot down with Dawsongfg and their numerous letters a long time ago.
As you know, Co-Mod is expected to leave soon and someone has to take in charge of the blog when he leaves. Mod Kristoph isn’t doing letters and the other three mods left, so by default, I will have to take charge and I’m very amateurish at it. Co-Mod still is the overseer, but he is training me to run this blog and I’ve only just become a mod in April.
The only thing I ask is patience and the allowance for me to make a few mistakes. I will grow some steam inside me, but like an oven or stove, it will take time to heat up. It doesn’t mean I don’t have a backbone or a bite to me.
Co-Mod: So...yeah.  The only real reason I’ve been letting these letters continue is because the sender in question wasn’t technically breaking the rules (cutting it close, definitely, but not quite).  That being said, letting them clutter up the queue with mostly nonsensical letters was pretty irresponsible of me, so...very sorry about that.
Tumblr media
And I agree, it’s time to pick up some steam, especially since these’ll be my last few months here.
Tumblr media
(Get it together, man!)
Now then, let’s see if we can’t finish things out on a high note, shall we?
Tumblr media

Dear Ajanisapprentice,

As for the sprite. I did that one. Perhaps, with time, I might make this something as reoccurring as Proto Badger.

Dear 91teivos,
Mod Vera: Thanks! Everyone in the world is going through some kind of existential crisis, so it made sense for the AA characters to join the party! (And since it was another follower who gave us the idea, we might just keep that idea in the think that after all...)
Tumblr media
Dear dawsongfg,
Mod Vera: No need to apologize! We like to space out letters from specific people a little, but we’ll answer as many as we can!
Tumblr media
(Referenced Letter)
Dear Bluedragoncody,
Co-Mod: Don’t worry.  I doubt they’ll have much luck against the Ace Attorney crew, even without the Proto Badger.  They have the ultimate weapon against despair in their arsenal, after all.
Tumblr media
...They’re doomed, aren’t they?
I can’t make any promises, but if I ever gain enough skill in the art of animation (which has been a dream of mine for a long time, it turns out), I’ll keep that idea in mind.
Tumblr media
Dear skibot99,
Mod Vera: Probably Tumblr bein’ weird. (What else is new?)
Tumblr media
Dear sheeeesh,
Mod Vera: Mods get brought on as needed, as you can see with the arrival of Mod Edgeworth! Also, DGS2 is one of the few AA titles I’ve never played, but rest assured. Where there’s a letter, there’s a Mod who can answer it!
Mod Edgeworth: To add to Mod Vera, even if you weren’t accepted during any mod applications, that doesn’t mean you have lost all chances. I applied early January and lost to Mod Vera. Regardless, Co-Mod informed me that, even though I was rejected, he saw my potential and kept me in mind for if I was ever needed. Now, here I am.
Just because you get rejected, that doesn’t mean it’s game over. Show that you have potential and make yourself known by sending letters to us. That is what I did, after being rejected. I made myself known to the mods by sending letters. We do read them and they tell us how much you know the characters and games of AA more than any application. Of course, you must also follow the guidelines. That just goes without saying.
Co-Mod: I think my actual words were something like “Don’t tell anyone, but you were my second choice.”  But yeah, what they said is true -- becoming a Mod here, like many things, may or may not happen to you, but you can definitely increase your chances by waiting patiently and demonstrating your potential.
As for DGS2 letters, I’m afraid those are still off-limits unless you know of a way to play or watch the game in its entirety, translated into English.  I guess I could check to see if the Dai Gyakuten Saiban 2 channel finished translating...
Tumblr media
(Translation: Whaaaaaaaaaaaat?!  ...D-Don’t tell me?!)
...Okay, looks like I have some watching to do.  Don’t know how I missed that.
So, uh...  That part in bold was what I was going to say.  Now that both games are finally getting an official English version, all I can say is, hang tight!

Dear Inferno again,
Co-Mod: Yeah, I agree.  I was just joking around.  For anyone who didn’t catch it, that was a reference to Sbemail #108.
The event’s technically over, but we’ll answer the rest of the April Fools’ Day letters when they reach the bottom of the queue.  I’m as eager to see Trucy’s reaction to the news (after the stunned silence) as anyone else, after all.

Dear Ella,
Mod Edgeworth:
Tumblr media
I can’t see the first link and....
Tumblr media
How did you find this masterpiece and where can I play this game?
Co-Mod: We don’t check for direct messages on Tumblr, if that’s what you’re referring to, so it wouldn’t have made any difference anyway.  You can always send links in your letters, of course.
Tumblr media
(Previous Post)
Dear Inferno,
Mod Edgeworth: That mad lad would be me and thank you.
Tumblr media
I like to put my heart and effort when answering these letters. With this one, I figured you wanted to see Trucy in costume, so I just searched up an image on Google for the Ancient One’s costume, a sprite of Trucy and a bald head to put on her. The rest I photoshopped on GIMP.
We’re still going through letters from January. Hopefully we will get the rest of yours soon enough.
Tumblr media
Mod Edgeworth: Thank you very much. Your support and the others’ support that have liked, commented and reblogged it mean a lot. As you have stated, a majority of the fandom seem to consider him the worst. I’d like to think it’s because how AA had created this villain of a character to be universally hated was pure genius. Not even the Phantom gets this much hate… and that’s saying something.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, I’d like to keep my real identity outside this blog a secret. I write a lot of letters here and I don’t want to break the spell for anyone. Think of it like a Disney theme park. The cast that play the characters will never admit their true identities, outside of family and close friends, to prevent the experience from being ruined. I want to do the same as a Mod. I don’t want to break the spell of writing to your favorite AA characters. This blog had helped me through my tough times and I want to help everyone else as a mod.
However, I will answer your letters and, if you post anything on your account, a mysterious friend I know may linger and give you a like ;)
Tumblr media
(Previous Letter)
Dear Ali S. Fakenamington,
Co-Mod: Beautifully so.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Previous Letter)
Dear Sinyove,
Mod Edgeworth: That letter was made in 2012 before AA5 and AA6, which was WAY before I became a part of the AA fandom. I’m certain a lot of us were not here when this letter was made, except maybe Co-Mod, but you’ll have to speak with him about this. I will say that the mod that answered this is no longer working here... I think. At the very least, I haven’t heard from him.
That being said, AA4 or Apollo Justice was the first AA game I’ve ever played. Despite all of the hate I saw towards that game, I still loved it regardless. Though, having not played the trilogy, playing the tutorial of AJ was a pain in the ass. I remember going to YouTube to find out how to beat it, because it was so hard. I also played it on PC.
I do see where The Mod was coming from. Had the two sequel games never existed, Apollo Justice would have more holes than my brothers’ socks. My only critique is that Phoenix wasn’t any better either with having Mia babysitting him during almost every trial AND investigations. Hell, Phoenix needed Mia to know how to talk to a kid, talk to a perverted old man, almost gave up in most of his trials in the first game and never conducted a trial without Mia until Turnabout Goodbyes when Maya literally couldn’t summon her. For the most part, Apollo was doing fine on his own without Phoenix, with only Trucy assisting him for the two middle trials, only almost giving up once and Phoenix having assisted him during times when Apollo was not in a normal situation (like when the criminal turned out to be his own co-council/mentor or when he had to lead a trial that included the Jury System). That’s more than Phoenix ever did on his own in the first two games and I think Apollo deserves more credit than he got in that letter in my opinion.
Tumblr media
For me, Apollo Justice is one of those games you either like or you hate. I love it for what it is. My least favorite AA game would have to be Ace Attorney Investigations, the first game. The second one is my absolute favorite.
Co-Mod: Sadly, I haven’t seen or heard from the Mod in a while, so it may be time for us to declare him MIA again.
Tumblr media
Erm...  Sorry, poor choice of words.
I’m fairly certain I wasn’t around 5 years long ago, but I have to say, Capcom did a great job of making Apollo and his story more interesting over time.  He may not be Phoenix, but he certainly carried his legacy forward pretty well, both as an attorney and as an Ace Attorney protagonist.
Now, WHAT ABOUT ATHENA ALREADY!?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dear BDC,
Co-Mod: It fits like a glove, if you ask me...although it also kind of reminds me of 101 Dalmatians.  And thanks for that bit of info!  I never get tired of watching people enjoying the fun dialogue and plot twists of Ace Attorney, so I might have to look him up.
I’m not sure I feel the same about watching Dahlia’s voice actress, though.  I’m sure she’s a nice person and all, but the thought of hearing that voice for so long...  *shudder*

Dear dawsongfg again,
Co-Mod: I wasn’t trying to say that natural deaths can’t happen in the Ace Attorney universe, just that most deaths aren’t what they seem.  I knew right away that Archie Buff’s death was no accident, for one thing.  Waaaaay too much of a coincidence, know what I mean?

Dear dawsongfg,
Mod Edgeworth: Your letter never specified. If you want us to answer a letter to a character that takes place in a specific timeline, you need to let us know where it takes place in the letter. You can do so by posting “Post AAI2″ or having Simon mention about his own or his father’s arrest in the letter.
Tumblr media
Thanks for the compliment. I did most of the Father’s Day letters, since I did feel it was unfair that non of the Holiday letters were getting answered. There are still some that we will save for next year, but I’m glad people had fun. I want to encourage everyone to send letters for the Holiday, since I suspect many aren’t that enthusiastic due to not being able to predict when those letters will be reached by the time the Holiday starts. I think having it done three days in advanced before closing it at the end of the Holiday will work the best.
Co-Mod: An obligatory thanks from me as well!
Tumblr media
Dear Captcha,
Mod Edgeworth: Makes as much sense as everything else online.
Co-Mod: You don’t have to tell me.  If studying computer science for 4 and a half years has taught me anything, it’s that computers are dumb.
Mod Justice: Honestly (might be an exaggeration, but I don’t care) I think at this point, everything is dumb.

Dear dawsongfg (again),
Co-Mod: I take no responsibility for Edgeworth’s naturally scary facial expressions.
My favorite book overall would be the Bible, but if we’re talking about non-religious texts...probably J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, since it was one of the first novels I ever read through on my own.  And my favorite season?  Summer, no question.  Water parks, swimming pools, fireworks...  How can you not love it?  Well...when we’re not recovering from a pandemic, that is.
Mod Edgeworth: I don’t really have a favorite season or book. I have read some good books, but I’m no bookworm. I do get invested in reading the Bible.
Mod Justice: Favorite book is actually a series of books: “Big Nate” for the win! Favorite season? Depends on where I’m at when it hits. I mostly prefer Fall and Spring (not too hot, not too cold), but in Texas, GIVE ME THE LAST TWO SEASONS OF THE YEAR ALREADY! GOOD GOD, I’M BURNING UP!

Dear dawsongfg again (again),
Mod Edgeworth: Hehe Phoenix has never had the best fashion sense, has he? The moment he walks out of the courtroom, he automatically becomes a fashion disaster. Just ask Beanie Phoenix.
Tumblr media
Speaking of Blaise Debeste, we never really did get a reason for forging that autopsy report on Isaac Dover. Kinda makes you wonder why he’d go out of his way to frame the murder on a chef from a dancing and singing cooking show. Maybe I’m looking way too deeply into this, but I doubt it was just for shits and giggles.
Tumblr media Tumblr media

Dear dawsongfg again (again (again)),
Co-Mod: That’s called cheating, first of all.  I actually do like plain cheese pizza, for the same reason as Mr. Engarde, oddly enough.  I’m afraid I have no idea where that tag came from, though.  Ask Tumblr.
Mod Edgeworth: Sorry, but I already gave the cookie away to the one who actually got it right... I prefer chicken and spinach with Alfredo sauce on my pizza.
Mod Justice: I’m more of a “Meat Lovers” kind of guy. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!
Tumblr media
Dear Blaise,
Co-Mod: Your mail’s here.
Tumblr media
Mod Edgeworth: Personally, I wouldn’t mind having a new female or male villain. Though, the worth of any villain, protagonist, side character, etc. should not be determined based on gender. I honestly hate the concept that there should be more females in Ace Attorney, because they’re women. I don’t enjoy Dahlia Hawthorn, because she’s a female villain, but because of how she uses her beauty to manipulate everyone in her wake. Same with Morgan Fey, Dee Vasquez, Gar’ran, Cammy Meele, Calisto Yew and Patrica Roland. I love them as villains because of what they bring to the table, not for their gender.
Tumblr media
I think this whole there’s not enough women in Ace Attorney is a concept based off of the number of male vs female characters, believing it’s male dominated and thinking there should be more females. That’s a very flawed way of thinking and borderline sexist in my opinion. In every story or game, the quality of the female and male characters should be the center focus, not the quantity. You can have 100 female characters that suck in a story and I will always prefer a story with well-rounded characters, even if there’s only one that’s female in that story.
Now, I do think there should be more memorable hot villains, but that’s my hormones talking.
For your second question, I think Manfred Von Karma is in serious need of an established relationship with Miles Edgeworth and Franziska Von Karma. I’d also like to know more about the Von Karma family. Everything else, I think a majority of people have already brought up.
Mod Justice: I think if there’s anything that needs more elaboration in the Ace Attorney series, it’s the motives of the killers whose motives are not stated (not including “implied” motives), i.e. Luke Atmey’s motive for killing Kane Bullard. As for the-

Co-Mod: I’m tempted to say more female villains would make Ace Attorney more interesting, but...they tend to be a lot creepier than the male ones in this series.  I mean, it’s not just me, right?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then again, maybe that’s my mild fear of women talking, but there’s a limit to how much femme fatale I can take.

Co-Mod: Correct!  I used good old Google Translate to come up with that term.  And I’d love to hear anything our subordinates the characters have to say to us.  We’re all friends/acquaintances here.
Mod Edgeworth: I believe so. We’d treat them no differently than any other letter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Referenced Letter)
Dear Anonymous,
Mod Edgeworth: Yes. We don’t consider Dawsongfg a bad troll or at least I don’t. I think he was just teasing Mod Justice and took it a bit too far.
As for the insults against Co-Mod and myself, you’re going to have to ask Mod Justice on that one.
However, one thing I must clarify is that Dawsongfg is not a harmful or bad troll. They often do stuff like this as playful banter. Mod Justice was answering letters for the first time, unaware of any of Dawsongfg’s shenanigans. It took him by surprise and we agreed that Dawsongfg took it a bit too far, if only because name calling was involved and Mod Justice was new. Had it been towards Co-Mod or myself, we’d likely have played along like usual. On top of that, these letters were taken off of the mobile devices, which were invisible to us at the time. All of Dawsongfg’s letters had gone unanswered that were a month’s worth, so it’s likely that Dawsongfg thought we were ignoring their letters.
Tumblr media
One thing everyone needs to keep in mind about new mods is that they are still trying to adapt to their new environment and understand how everything ticks. It’s okay to mess around and be a playful troll, but each of us are different and may take it differently than the other. Luckily, Mod Justice didn’t take it personal and sees now that this is just their shtick. Another thing to keep in mind is that not all trolls are bad or troll for their own amusement. I once created a troll account on YouTube to make others laugh. I believe Dawsongfg is that kind of troll that is trolling to make us THE MODS and you THE AUDIENCE THAT READS THE LETTERS laugh. A majority of the popular anonymous letters that had the most likes were from Dawsongfg. I think we can forgive them for taking things a bit too far, wouldn’t you say?
Mod Justice: Yeah, he was. At that point, it turned from “teasing” to “insulting.” I mean, if someone hates Apollo, fine, to each their own. That does NOT give them an excuse to throw insults at people who love him.
Although... I understand he was joking at these times (and he did make me laugh), but then again, there’s a difference between “joking” and “blatantly and verbally attacking” someone and saying it’s a joke. Let me tell you guys something:
IT’S ONLY A JOKE IF EVERYONE IS LAUGHING WITH YOU WHEN YOU TELL IT.
When you actually insult someone and they are hurt, maybe you should apologize instead of dismissing it as a goddamn joke. Call me sensitive all you want, but it seems that “treating others the way you want to be treated” is starting to become optional nowadays.
Tumblr media
Dear Anonymous,
Mod Justice:
Tumblr media
Yeah, quick reminder: with the exception of these “Mod Letters” and characters that AREN’T related to Ace Attorney whatsoever (i.e. Mario, Sonic, Pokémon, etc.), all submissions to the AA characters themselves that mention the terms “Game,” “Characters,” or anything else that implies they aren’t “real” get deleted into Cyberspace. Also keep in mind that the “April Fools” letters from this past year don’t count.
Co-Mod: That’s true, unless we can find a way to work around it.  I’m afraid I don’t which letters you’re referring to, but you’re forgiven nonetheless.
